Telematics and Location Based
Services
RMSI has extensive expertise in providing Location
Based Services (LBS). This includes:
Base Data:
Geographic data is an important aspect of any
location system. RMSI creates accurate base map
data for use in location based systems such as
man made structures (streets, buildings), terrains
(mountains, rivers), and point-of-interest data
such as location of gas stations, restaurants,
and nightclubs.
Navigation and Tracking:
RMSI's expertise lies in providing a range of
navigation and tracking solutions, from fleet
application management to enabling mobile commerce.
Fleet applications typically entail tracking vehicles
by the base station. Tracking is also a key component
in enabling mobile commerce services, as the system
can track mobile users and provide information
on request, such as notifying the user of a sale
at a store close by.
Emergency Services (E911):
Location based emergency service application
that pinpoints your location and relays it to
the appropriate authorities.
Location Management Function:
It is not enough to be able to position the mobile
user and know the map data around that position.
There must be a location management function to
process positioning and geospatial data on behalf
of LBS applications. The location management function
acts as a gateway and mediator between positioning
equipment and LBS infrastructure.
Location Based Information:
Enabling services to be location based is a key
way to personalize information services. The LBS
application interacts with other location technology
components to determine the user's location and
provide requested information relevant for that
particular area.
