Wireless Telecommunication
RMSI is a leading supplier of geodata for wireless
network planning and design. RMSI provides DEM/DTM,
Land Use/Clutter, Vector/Linear databases, 3-D
building heights, and off-the-shelf geodata products
and also assists clients in source data acquisition.
RMSI offers geodata solutions for fixed wireless
(WLL, LMDS) and mobile wireless (GSM, CDMA, TDMA
and UMTS) networks. RMSI's solutions can be used
in a variety of wireless applications, ranging
from preliminary regional network planning and
coverage analysis to micro-cell design, line-of-sight
analysis, network expansion, and site acquisition.
RMSI has built an extensive set of off-the-shelf
map data products for countries, regions and cities
across the world. Through a rigorous data maintenance
program, RMSI updates these country, regional,
and city databases, which have land-use, elevation,
and vector resolutions of 25m, 50m, and 100 m.
These data products are available in a variety
of wireless network planning tool formats.
| Digital
Elevation Models (DEM): |
| RMSI typically
generates DEM data for macro-level planning
from topographic paper maps. Where reliable
topographic map data is unavailable, RMSI
generates DEM data from RADARSAT, SPOT, IRS,
or ERS stereo images. For more demanding micro-level
planning requirements, RMSI uses stereo aerial
photographs or high-resolution stereo satellite
imagery to generate highly accurate Bald Earth
DEMs, Canopy DEMs, or Engineering DEMs. |
| Land
Use/Clutter Databases: |
| RMSI has
worked extensively on deriving Land Use (clutter/morphological)
data from paper maps, satellite imagery, and
aerial photography. These databases depict
geographic distribution of natural and built-up
features that are classified as per user defined
classes. RMSI data sets would typically contain
between 7 to 20 clutter classifications. |
| Vector/Linear
Databases: |
| RMSI's vector
databases represent transportation infrastructure
including roads and railways, and other linear
features such as coastlines, rivers, and borders.
Vector databases are generated from topographic
paper maps, city guide maps, satellite imagery,
and aerial photographs. |
| 3D
Building Height Databases: |
| Building
vector information comes in the form of
polygons representing building footprints
at ground level. Building height databases
comprise vector files containing the footprint
of built-up structures along with their
elevations. These databases are usually
generated from aerial photographs or high-resolution
stereo satellite imagery.
|
| Orthoimagery: |
Fully
rectified orthoimagery is provided as a
seamless mosaic of the source aerial photographs
or satellite imagery. RMSI corrects the
source imagery to remove distortions created
by the camera or topography. RF planners
use digital orthoimagery as a visual reference.

| Customized
Map Data Sets: |
| One of
RMSI's most significant strengths is its
ability to promptly deliver customized map
data sets that exactly fit client requirements.
With a qualified staff of over 350 mapping
and GIS engineers, RMSI can ensure quick
delivery of custom data sets for clients
working to tight timeframes.
|
| Conversion
of Client Data Sets: |
| RMSI undertakes
custom projects to transform client data into
different projection systems, updating old
datasets with freshly created data, changing
the resolution of datasets, and converting
data from one file format to another. |
| Geodata
Consulting: |
| RMSI offers
independent consulting services to define
appropriate resolution, quality, and type
of geodata required by a client for a specific
RF planning and design. RMSI undertakes rapid
needs assessment, evaluates all available
input sources, and provides recommendations
on the optimum geodata requirements to fit
the specific client need. |
| Data
Acquisition: |
| As part of
its turnkey solution services, RMSI will source
data including paper topographic maps, satellite
imagery, and aerial photographs for its clients.
RMSI also assists clients in obtaining the
necessary permissions for digitizing from
copyright sources. Over the past decade RMSI
has built a large inventory of maps and satellite
images of regions worldwide. |
