Government and Funding Agencies

Following the UN’s initiatives for the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) in the 1990s, and following the Kyoto Declaration and the Millennium Development Goals, disaster management is high on the international agenda and is closely linked with sustainable development.

Multi-lateral and bilateral development agencies such as the World Bank, ADB, USAID, and JICA, as well as UN affiliates, such as the UNDP, have committed to a strong development agenda in the developing countries. Since development is closely linked to managing disasters and mitigating their effects on lives, livelihood, and property, these agencies have been funding various programs in disaster management. Recently, governments in India have begun to undertake various initiatives and programs in vulnerability reduction and disaster mitigation.

RMSI has been helping the World Bank and various governments in undertaking technical assistance and studies aimed at capacity building and policy-making.
