UR is a global community of 8,000+ experts and practitioners active in the creation, communication, and use of disaster risk information.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_489\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-489\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-489\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rmsi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/c7dd9018-2485-4abf-b036-cf9c1f8d8e7b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-489\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Murari Lal, Technical Head, RMSI leading the session on &#8220;Importance of Numerical Models in Prediction of Extreme Events&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>RMSI\u2019s Dr. Murari Lal, Technical Head led an exclusive event on \u2018Importance of Numerical Models in Prediction of Extreme Events\u2019. The session highlighted how sophisticated technology driven numerical models can be used to accurately predict the intensity and extent of extreme events that can hence, serve as a crucial input to disaster management planning.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Dr. Lal, also launched an exclusive community on \u201cChallenges that weather extremes are posing on food security\u201d as part of the UR event. This community comprises of global climate change professionals and sector experts discussing various approaches and methodologies that are being used for mitigating the impacts of recent disasters in support of protecting the livelihood of communities. The community members will be sharing a series of insights that will be made available to the general public through a YouTube channel. This will be a valuable knowledge repository for people engaged in climate change as it comprises of the vision, thoughts and practices of these global climate change thought leaders.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_498\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-498\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-498\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rmsi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ur18_031.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"317\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-498\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pushpendra Johari, Head &#8211; Risk &amp; Insurance, RMSI along with the panelists of his session &#8220;Learning from the private sector in the design and implementation of last mile solutions to reach beneficiaries&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As part of UR 2018, a partnership day was organized by World Bank and GFDRR on \u201cUnderstanding risk for financial resilience\u201d.
